Neighboring west, the St. Thomas Aquainas Catholic Church. We share parking lot space with Forestland, which is to our east. 1 block west of the police station & court. 1 block east is a gas station.
About Us

Since 2002, Citizens for Backus/AB, a non-profit 501-C3 corporation, has owned both historic buildings. The Backus building is currently operating as a vibrant community center and is used by residents of all ages. The Backus stage plays host to talent shows, concerts, musicals, 4-H shows, plays, special events and community gatherings.
The building provides a home for an art studio, 4-H programming, youth sports, dance studios, art classes, summer youth drama and theater programs, music lessons, orchestra, teen dances, weddings, receptions, showers, training, workshops, dinners and monthly soup suppers! The auditorium and meeting rooms are available for rent and office space is also available.

Alyssa Crawford started her new role as Office Assistant at Backus Community Center on October 1, 2020. You will find Alyssa smiling behind the front desk ready to lead you in the right direction. It very fulfilling to her to be able to work in an environment that makes our community a better place. Alyssa and her amazing husband are blessed with three children. They enjoy their time with the family, everything outdoors, spur of the moment adventures, and spending time with their dear friends.

Lois Lundin

Lois Lundin started her new role as Executive Director at Backus on January 1, 2021. Lois is a very “hands on” director. If you come to Backus and you don’t find her at her desk, go look in the garden, or in the kitchen, or in the boiler room, or walking the halls or grounds and tending to the details of the building. Lois and her husband have two daughters and four grandchildren. They enjoy time at home and at their cabin in the woods, time in their boat, time with friends, and traveling.

Hoa Sobczynski

Hoa has been with Backus Community Center since 2008 as Treasurer for Board of Director. Hoa was hired as Business Manager since Feb. 2009. When people see Hoa at Backus they often ask “Do you leave here?” outside of Backus life, Hoa and her husband Kurt have two children and two grandsons. The Sobczynski's have a small farm/garden, they enjoy provide fresh produce to the family and friends.

Darcy Sullivan

Program Director at KCC-TV Darcy Sullivan here. I started at KCC-TV in February of 2018. I had no experience with a camera, video editing, or program schedule. It has always been something I wanted to do though. I had to learn fast. It wasn't easy for someone who's extend of computer use was for writing papers in college. It has been a few years since that, as well.

This job brings me around the community with meetings and community events. I really get to know what is happening. My favorite filming though is music, from school concerts, Backus events, outdoor and studio sessions.

I live here in Int'l Falls with my husband, daughter, son, and our dog Echo.. When I am not filming or editing I usually strumming and singing or enjoying a bike ride around our community with my family.
